A contemporary style of smart, dry white from Sauternes. Ripe Sauvignon Blanc aromas dominate the nose, backed by more complex oak notes. The palate is assertively rich and layered from the lees ageing with bright passionfruit characters and lively acidity on the finish.

£30

A beautiful young white Burgundy. A restrained nose with sweet, toasty oak notes and preserved lemon. Weighty on the palate, but not at all fat, with citrus blossom and a savoury finish. At present all is linear and direct, promising plenty of evolution and interest to come.

Avery £30 I was so impressed by the elegance of this wine, I called in some of the team to taste it! Here's one of their tasting notes: loaded with cherries with a heady concoction of warming spices. A soft, rich, melted-butter-like palate, additional raspberry jam smoothness and further toasty spice round it all off. Votes – 17=1st
